New Route Announced for Maxi Marathon.

Following the inaugural Killarney maxi marathon in 2010 we asked everyone who competed in the race how can we make the 2011 Maxi Marathon even better? To make the race event better we have changed the last 4 miles of the race to take in the tranquil clear waters around Muckross lake. Along the last 4 miles you will now run past Dinis Cottage, run over Brickeen Bridge and follow the road around the Muckross Lake back into Muckross House.
Brickeen Bridge on mile 13 of the new route
Dinis Cottage on Muckross Lake - Mile 12The race will now start beside Barifinny Lake on the Sneem to Killarney Road (same road as last year) and it will finish in the same position in the world famous Muckross House in Killarney National Park. The new route has cut out the two little hills on the last mile. The race will not enter the national park at Muckross Park Hotel but now at Dinis Cottage car park. The new routes are available on our web site www.maximarathonkillarney.comWe officially measured the route on Saturday the 14th May with Breda and John. A big thanks to their precision and diligent measurement using the Jones counter.

Killarney Maxi Marathon Competition

On the 16th of July 2011, Killarney will again play host to what organisers promise is the world's most beautiful road race. Last year a brave group of 15 novice runners from Breda Barrett's Gneeveguilla AC fit for Life began training 4 months prior to the Maxi Marathon with all 15 successfully completed the stunning route to rapturous applause and celebration at the finish line.
